Harry Kalas Passes Away at 73

Capping what has been a rough week for baseball, beloved Phillies announcer Harry Kalas has passed away at the age of 73. As noted as he is for baseball calls such as “Michael Jack Schmidt’s” 500th home run, I think of his work on NFL films just as much.

Personally I’m thrilled Mr Kalas had a chance to call a Phillies World Championship before he went to that great broadcast booth in the sky. You can join the memorial group for Harry Kalas on Facebook here.

If only the news of Kalas was the end of the tragic news in the baseball world. RIP Kalas and Fidrych.

Kalas was one of the remaining announcers few that his voice is synonymous with a baseball team…Scully with the Dodgers, Marty and Joe (we STILL miss ya, Nuxy) with the Reds, etc. I never got to hear Kalas do a game, but know he had a great voice from his work with NFL Films.
